Monounsaturated fatty acids are good fats that can lower the bad cholesterol in the body. Healthy foods like olive oil, nuts, fish oil, and various seed oils are high in monounsaturated fatty acids that can be helpful in lowering down bad cholesterol and reduces the risk of heart diseases.

Before Packing Lunch to Work Consider These Things First

lunchThe global crisis has encouraged a lot of people to pack their own lunch to work. Not only does it cut cost but it is also a healthy option since you can supervise exactly what you’re eating. You might find yourself bored after doing it for a while but if you have kids who go to school then you can encourage them to help you plan and prepare the food. If the morning sounds too rush for you and it’s hard to make time for an extra work then you can prepare the food the night before. You can cook extra dinner and packed the leftovers for lunch the following day.

Safety is top priority when packing lunch. You don’t want to open your lunch box to find spoiled foods. It is not only repulsive but it is also dangerous to your health. Not all spoiled foods smell so if you didn’t follow the right procedure in properly packing food then you can be eating something that’s already loaded with bacteria. That can cause stomach upset or worse, food poisoning. There are some things to consider before bringing that food to school or work.

If your office has a refrigerator then you can store it there when you arrive at work. You can remove it an hour before lunch, because we all know how unappetizing it is to eat cold meal, provided your office has a low temperature. Perishable foods get spoiled easily when exposed to hot temperature. You can opt to bring foods that don’t require refrigeration like fruits and crackers. Of course, you cannot keep eating crackers at lunch so if you really must diversify, make sure that you put them in an insulated box to keep them safe from outside heat.

Dinner leftovers can be frozen before leaving the house to keep them fresh. They’ll thaw their way to lunch. Yogurts and sandwiches can also be frozen and they should be ready to eat come lunchtime. You can throw in a frozen gel pack or frozen juice box in your insulated lunch box together with food items like cheese, sandwiches and milk to keep them cold and fresh. Invest in containers that can keep hot foods so you don’t have to always eat cold lunch at work. After work, do not keep leftovers because they may have encouraged harmful bacteria while in storage and it can make you sick. To truly make your lunch creative but healthy make sure to include all food groups and don’t pack the same kinds of food three days in a row to avoid getting bored.
