Reward Yourself with a Good Night Sleep
In the fast-paced global arena, more and more people are trading a good night sleep to catching up with deadlines and getting more social life. We push our body to the limit thinking we can. What a lot of people don’t realize is that irregular sleep can bring on health problems like cardiovascular disease and chronic sleep illnesses. An act as easy as going to bed early and taking one’s daily dose of seven to eight hours of sleep can improve one’s quality of life. It is amazing how our body responds to our needs when it is fully rested.
There is mounting evidence that lack of sleep is associated with the most common diseases today. Sleep is just as important as eating or getting fit. Without proper sleep, our overtired body cannot respond well to our increasing physical activity. Scrimping on sleep can trigger stress hormones that increase a person’s risk to heart attacks. Lack of sleep also disturbs how our bodies process blood sugar so diabetes may not be too far away if you keep at it. There is also a very disturbing relation between breast cancer and lack of sleep. A hormone called melatonin which is said to protect cancer decreases when exposed to artificial lights. Women who work on night shifts may be exposing themselves to the risk of breast cancer by being under artificial lights every night for many hours.
Depriving ourselves with proper sleep can cause hormones that control our appetites go out of balance. People who are trying to lose weight and are in danger of becoming obese should pay close watch to dozing off with the right amount of time. Sleep loss makes people very tired and some don’t just notice it because they are used to it. Making sleep our priority is not a hindrance or a sign of slacking up. It is just giving our body its due. Do not take sleep for granted. Respecting sleep is respecting your body.
